Genetically engineered by the Chozo, Metroids were created to keep the even more dangerous X Parasites in check. Space Pirates introduced them to the universe at large when they stole a batch from planet SR388. Since then, Metroids have appeared on numerous worlds, threatening anyone and everyone with their ability to drain the life energy of their prey.
